Elder Booker T. Scott

Pentecostal Assemblies of the World

1905 ~ 1994

Elder Booker T. Scott was born October 25, 1905 in Bullard, Texas. He was the fifth son of seven boys and four girls born to the union of the late Andrew and Anna Dixon Scott. The Scott family was a very closely knit one. They worked together, played together, prayed together, went to church together, rejoiced together and suffered and conquered the unfortunate times together. As a child, Booker would imitate the preachers and revivalists by preaching to the trees, the flowers, even the grasshoppers and other insects telling them to "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." He often "preached" the funeral of dead birds and other animals. In 1925, Booker met and married Miss Gwendolyn Queen, she was calld to rest April of 1966.

In the summer of 1929, as he was on his way to play piano at a dance hall, one of the mothers of Englewood, Apostolic Church pleaded with booker to accompany her to a revival where the late Elder Mathel Tolbert was preaching at the church founded and pastored by the late Elder B.J. Beale. Booker often went to church, not as much as he did when he was at home, but he never got away from his parents teachings. So, instead of going to the dance hall that night he went to the revival. On the last night of the revival, he repented of his sins, was baptized in the name of Jesus, and said farewell to the dance halls forever. In October, 1929, he received the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at Apostolic Faith Church of Chicago pastored by the late Bishop John S. Holly.

In 1931, Booker was ordained an Elder, along with his good friend the late, then bro. Frank R. Bowdan, by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World at their convention held at Greater Bethlehem Temple, Detroit, Michigan. During the next four years Elder Scott workd faithfully in his own church. He later became assistant pastor to Bishop hlooy in Chicago, Illinois.

He founded and pastored a small mission in Evanston, Illinois, and in 1951 became pastor of Bethlehem, Temple in Flint. Michigan. In December 1967, he met and married Sister Dorothy E. Lewis of Los Angeles, california. Sister Dorothy brought new inspiratin and great vigor with her, thus enhancing the vision of his ministry. Much progress was made in the yeas to follow, due to the foresight, efficiency and progressive spirit of Elder Scott and his beloved wife, the late Sister Dorothy E. Scott, by God's guidance.

Eldr scott was elevated to the office of District Elder, by appointment of the late Bishop Sipes. Due to his declining health, his prayer was that God would send an undershepherd that would continue to lead the flock at Bethlehem Temple. The Lord granted the prayer of his faithful servant and sent his successor in the person of Elder Jerry T. Lewis. In 1987, at the age of 87, District Elder Booker T. Scott retired from active pastoral duties. The Prelate of the Royal Priesthood of the Eternal God slipped out of this world at midnight February 16, 1994 and is now resting in Paradise awaiting the trump of God.
