Are Men Saved Without The Holy Ghost?

Recently a minister asked us the above question. He was interested in the doctrine of the baptism of the Holy Ghost, but said some were teaching that all who did not have it were lost. That is error. The New Testament standard is the baptism of the Holy Spirit, but many have been converted to God with a vital heart experience and have never heard of the Holy Ghost, yet they are not lost. From what we can see in the Scriptures, they take part in the last resurrection and are given eternal life; while those filled with the Spirit have part in the first resurrection. Consider this! The Spirit-filled are taken into the presence of the Lord a thousand years before the final judgement. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-16, Revelation 20:6; Matthew 25:31-46, and Revelation 20:11-15.) At the coming of the Lord the Spirit-filled will escape the tribulation, while those that are not will be taken in a snare. - G.T. Haywood
