G.B. Cashwell was the link in the chain that opened the Southeastern States to the Pentecostal message. It is recorded that before the year 1907 was concluded, all, or nearly all, the ministers of the Fire Baptized Holiness Church had received a personal experience of the baptism in the Holy Spirit. Tomlinson, pastor of the newly organized Church of God in Cleveland invited Mr. Cashwell to come to town.

When Mr. Cashwell preached at the Cleveland Church on Jan. 12, 1908, Tomlinson received the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

Cashwell was named Chairman of Committees to examine applications for the ministry and to revise the Discipline. Cashwell's Bridegroom's Messenger was adopted as the official organ of this church until further arrangements.
